Music makes money: How much do artist make

We know that artists make a lot of money. They get money through their music, tours, and a lot of merchandise.  However, the big question is how much artists make for their music specifically.  We know that music streaming platforms have made it easier for listeners to listen to their favorite artists.  Platforms like Apple Music and Spotify have made millions of dollars. Yet, with those millions being made. How much money is actually going to the artist?  Some artists are under record labels, some have moved away from their labels, and many indie artists are trying to get their music heard. 

White Ferrari - Frank Ocean

Frank Ocean released White Ferrari under an independent label called Boys Don't Cry. Frank Ocean gets 500-600k a month from streaming services. Frank Ocean keeps around 70 to 90 percent of the money made from his music. That is because he has his own label company. The other 10 to 30  percent goes to the other streaming services on which his music is played. 

See You Again - Tyler the Creator

Tyler is under Columbia Records. Odd Future Records is Tyler, the Creator's own record label.  Tyler usually gets 70% from his songs. Tyler would get .003 to .005 cents per stream on Spotify and .01 cents per stream on Apple Music.  The other 30% of the gross revenue generated by streams goes to other streaming companies.

Seventh Heaven -  INOHA

INOHA signed with Stem for distribution. Inoha earns about .002 to .004 per stream on Spotify. The song "Seventh Heaven" has earned over $400,000. Inoha earns about 65% of revenue from their songs. Streaming services get about 30% from Inoha’s songs. The company Stem receives a small percentage of Inoha’s song royalties.

Digital media, such as YouTube videos and Spotify streams, have had a positive impact on the music industry.  People can easily listen to their favorite artists.  Since songs can be heard anywhere online. There has been an uprise in indie artists. People could post their music on Instagram or TikTok, which can help artists put their music out there while earning money from those TikToks.  Also, prices to listen to music can be as cheap as $12  a month. It is pretty cheap, in that people can listen to any music for many long hours.
